Considering every director has done underworld cinema to death - from Mahesh Bhatt to Ram Gopal Varma - and considering Sanjay has played a gangster in so many prominent and inconspicuous films, Luthria is at his wit's end as to how he should approach the age-old theme.

I've been focusing on getting the writing right. It's not easy to make a film that looks at the 1980s era and still manages to tell a powerful story, Luthria told IANS.

Although the director is trying to get the basics right for the project, he is clear about the fact that he will focus on gangsterism in the 1980s.

My film for Ekta will take a penetrating look at gangsterism in the 1980s. I'm quite enamoured by the period, quite taken up by the period and its flamboyance. There was a lot of action and inner life in some of the films during that period. I think the last film that looked at gangsterism from inside was Anurag Basu's 'Gangster - A Love Story'.

He admits the challenge is to give it a fresh look.

Earlier, when I was assisting Mahesh Bhatt, he did some interesting takes on gangsterism like 'Saathi' and 'Sir'. The challenge is to have a fresh take at the whole era. I've to take the whole period into account and yet it can't be a rambling look at the era. It has to have a strong story to tell. It has to be a clutter-breaking gangster film.

Meera Jasmine’s career has gone downhill in her home state, Kerala. Malayalam Film Association, AMMA, has shown the doors to Meera Jasmine, and has banned her to act in the Malluwood Films. she has been banned from acting in any Malayalam movies until AMMA lifts the ban.

The reason for the ban seems to be that in the movie, Twenty:20, all the Malayalam celebrities are going to play a role, free of cost. When Meera was approched for a role, she rejected to be a part of the film, for she had a clash with the dates of the Telugu movies. The proceeds from Twenty20 movie will go for the Association welfare funds.

It remains to be seen how Meera’s career will fare as she doesn’t usually sign many Malayalam movies and her only movie in Kollywood is the recently released Nepali.

In a way "yes", but if one went deeper the answer would be a resounding "no".

The fact of the matter is that BCCI is not a democratic body run by professionals, i.e. retired Indian cricketers, who have played internationally and performed creditably at that level (and assisted by professionals and advisers to help them in churning out money and ensuring that every single penny earned and spent is well accounted for and made available for Government and the public scrutiny).

Moreover, BCCI is not accountable to the Ministry of Sports (MOS) and MOS does not monitor the workings of this richest cricketing body, which has bizarre characters on its Board. Honestly speaking, I really wonder whether these blokes have the interest of the game in their hearts, rather than vested interests considering the rabid passion and mania Indians have for cricket, which even a pauper can exploit and tap to become a multi-millionaire overnight.

In short, BCCI is a massive pot of honey that attracts flies. People can see it for themselves, if they considered the backgrounds and professions of the personalities who feign interest in cricket. Otherwise, why are these characters fighting ferociously like dogs and indulging in all sorts of tactics, not necessarily clean, to get elected?

If they want to promote, develop and propagate cricket, then why not other games which are played internationally, namely soccer, hockey, athletics, boxing, billiards, snooker, aquatics, etc., etc.? This is simply because there is dearth of money in these sports to satisfy their hunger for money and power.

In fact, they should take much interest in other sports, because if India wins medals in these meets, then they would put the country on the world sporting map. Moreover, winning medals at Olympics, World games, other international events, etc. are more important than winning awards in cricket. Further, it would propel and catapult their names on international sporting stage, rather than just cricket, which is hardly known in a very few countries, rather than the entire world.

Well, what led to the formation of IPL. The answer lies with the tussles Zee Telefilms had with BCCI, including the court cases for TV rights for telecasting various matches.

Ultimately when Zee Telefilms decided to launch cricket under the name of Indian Cricket League (ICL), Sharad Pawar and his bunch in BCCI, a body whose workings are not known to most people, got offended and started crying foul. The creation of ICL created a fear in BCCI and immediately led to raising the earnings of Indian cricketers and the decision was taken to launch the IPL to counter ICL.

In short, Zee Telefilms is the responsible for the formation of IPL and, if not for them, cricketing world would not have heard about IPL and only a handful of cricketers would have continued making money, with the majority of them having to console themselves with the peanuts paid to them by their respective State Boards for their services. Therefore, Sharad Pawar and his bunch should not claim credit, because formation of IPL was not their brainchild. They got aroused from their deep slumber only when Zee TV took the bold decision to form ICL to promote the game and give opportunity to budding cricketers to earn decent cash, even if they did not get the opportunity to play for their country.

In short, Sharad Pawar and his bunch need to thank Subhash Chandra for forcing them to launch IPL, because BCCI felt that ICL would be a threat.

"Is she plays the role of Robots lady love or someone will replace her?" This is the question raised by media for the past two days. The thread was actually started by a Mumbai tabloid that reports that Shankar plans to shoot Robot over a period of two years. Yaaradi Nee Mohini starring Danush and Nayantara in the lead role has been censored with U certificate. The movie is now ready for release in the first week of April.

The movie starring Dhanush and Nayantara in lead roles is a remake of Telugu hit Adavari Mataluku Ardhalae Verulae (directed by Selvaraghavan). Jawahar, an associate of Selvaraghavan, directs the Tamil version.The shooting for the movie commenced last month in Chennai followed by a few scenes in Hyderabad.

The movie is said to be a perfect for the family audience according to the censor board. Riding high on the success wave of the last year Deepavali release Polladhavan, Dhanush will try his chemistry with Nayanthara for the first time in Yaaradi.

Nirav Shah replaces Ratnavelu for Robot

The current cameraman for Robot is R.Ratnavelu, not sure for how long, but lets hope he is the one who is going to stick to the project till the end. Robot the big budget movie by director Shankar, starring none other than Superstar Rajinikanth and Bollywood bomb Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has been having replacement of cameraman quite frequently since the project was announced.

The initial chose for shooting Rajini and Ash and the Robot was Nirav Shah, but he walked out. He was replaced by Thiru but looks like there has been differences with Thiru too and he has been now replaced by R. Ratnavelu.

The reason seems to be that Shankar has insisted his crew to be completely dedicated to Robot for the next 2 years and it is a difficult task for many to do. Lets hope Ratnavelu gets to be associated with the movie which will go down in history!!

At first, I was not sure whether to take up the film or not, as I have not done such roles in Telugu earlier. However, producer Satyanarayana Garu convinced me to give the nod. I began liking it after reading the script a couple of times. It is not a love story but a fun film. I play the role of a sweet, simple and lively girl who loves helping others.

A glance into her sparkling eyes and her cute face is enough to makes guys go mad. Yes, Bhumika Chawla has become the darling of young hearts following her splendid performances in reel. She has left her footprints in Telugu, Hindi and Tamil films, and now set to make a mark in Punjabi films too. She is excited about her new Telugu film titled ‘Maya Bazaar’, where she acts with Raja. Now, she tells more about the film, her experiences and much more.

Do you feel comfortable working in the South?

I have a special attachment to the South, and maybe it is because I started my career here. People in the north asked me if I were doing a Madrasi film when I first stepped into films but I told them that I was working for a Telugu film, which is a different language. It was tough initially since the language was strange. I thought of returning back home on the fourth day of shooting but my mom convinced me to complete the project. At the end of the day, all the trouble vanished and my dream came true. Fame and fame came and there was no stopping since then.

How was your experience in Tamil films?

My Tamil debut film ‘Rojakootam’ is still close to my heart. We had lots of fun shooting for the film. I have no regrets though ‘Sillunu Oru Kathal’ failed, as I enjoyed working for it, and most importantly, people liked my character. It was great working with Surya and Jyothika. You know, Surya is such a humble man.

Director Gautham Menon has started shooting for “Chennaiyil Oru Mazhaikaalam” with Trisha in the lead. Nikita, who had a brief stint in Tamil and now in Telugu, Nethra who featured in “Thoovanam”and four boys Veera, Dev, Satish and Shyam, are the other actors and they are all new faces. Nethra was signed on recently after Gautham reportedly saw the promos of Thoovanam in which she portrayed the role of an NRI girl. “Chennaiyil..” is the story revolving around IT professionals. Gautham has just competed 15-day shoot for the film. It is a new genre which Gautham has not tried before. According to him, it will be a complete entertainer, a light film with Trisha leading the cast. Though Nethra is to play a complementary role, she believes her role also will be significant one. “Every character in Gautham sir’s film is well drawn out. So I am rest assured about mine too,” she told mediapersons. She is all praise for Gautham. Though she is a newcomer, requiring several re-takes, “Gautham sir was very patient with me and never lost his temper at any point of time” during the 15-day shoot, she said.

Originally, “Chennaiyil…” was announced as a project with actor Surya in the lead. Gautham clarified that “Chennaiyil..” with Trisha and a whole lot of youngsters is new and the story is different. He has taken only the title. The earlier “Chennaiyil..” with Surya has been renamed “Vaaranam Aayiram” which is on hold with Surya getting busy with another project “Vael”. The audio launch of Dasavatharam has been postponed once again. The launch initially planned for Feb, then postponed to mid March and then further postponed to April 2nd has been postponed once again. The buzz is that to suit the dates of actor Jackie Chan the audio release has been postponed by another week. The quintessential psychopathic baddie of Tamil cinema, the man who gave villainy on screen a good name, Raghuvaran died here at a private hospital after battling personal demons and a few other debilitating physical problems. He was 49.

Raghuvaran is survived by his former wife actress Rohini (the couple had divorced) and their son, Nanda.

Raghuvaran had been unwell for the last few years and had taken a sabbatical from active films for some time. Sivapathigaram, released some time last year, marked his comeback. After that he was a regular figure acting in big films including Rajnikanth’s Sivaji. His last release was however Sila Nerangalil and Bheema (which had been made some time back).

The life of lanky Raghuvaran, who made his debut as a brooding Commie hero in Ezhavathu Manithan under the direction of Hariharan, eventually turned out to be bitter-sweet as he had to constantly fight his tendency to embrace the easier pleasures that were easily available to impressionable youngsters in Kollywood.

Unable to handle the success and fame that came his way early, Raghuvaran fell into bad habits, from which he never really came out till his untimely death today.

But even as he was living life on the edge with women, wine and many other seductive things, Raghuvaran also managed to win a name for himself as someone whose acting ability was refreshingly sans the usual Kollywood cliches. After playing hero roles not with egregious success, Raghuvaran was quick to switch over to the archetypal middle-class character roles. Films like Samsaram Adhu Minsaram, Aaha, Mugavari, Amarkkalam, Run, and many others with Rajnikanth including Muthu, Arunachalam, Siva, Sivaji, Raja Chinna Roja proved his versatility.

But it was as a villain, with shades of deep black and a touch of enigmatic and over-the-top eccentricity, that Raghuvaran’s eventual screen image came to be defined. The scene in which he completely lets himself loose, mouthing ‘I know’ for heaven knows how many times, in the film Puriyatha Puthir, became so popular that his real-life image was almost suspected to be something similar. It was one of the myths that he could never really shake off.

But even as he was fighting what eventually turned out to be a losing battle with the bottle, a spiritual and an ersatz philosophical side to his persona also opened up. He also became a devotee of Sai Baba. It was during this phase he struck a romantic chord with actress Rohini and married her.

The marriage, as it happened, like his film career promised a lot, but ended up mighty short. The couple had a son Nanda, on whom Raghuvaran was doting. When the marriage ended up in the courts, Raghuvaran became an even more broken man and reportedly fell into his self-created abyss. Though well-meaning individuals, who thought highly of his acting skills, tried to shore him up with some film offers all through last year, Raghuvaran was for all practical purposes had called it quits — on films and life too.

In the event, his end, though surprising in its immediate aftermath, was something that was foretold the moment he courted early success. Raghuvaran’s life, like some of his movies including the almost biographical Idhu Oru Manidhanin Kadhai, was something of a cautionary morality play. A noir show of how success could be as lethal as a failure, sometimes.

Meghna Naidu's Vaitheeswaran Movie Review

The theme of rebirth and reincarnation seems to be reigning high in tinsel town now. First it was Shah Rukh Khan's Om Shanthi Om, followed closely by Sila Nerangalil. The latest to join the bandwagon is Vaitheeswaran, directed by debutant Vidhyadharan.

The story is very simple. While on his mission to plunder jewels from a temple, Sayaji Shinde kills a small boy who happens to spot him. Being a witness to this dastardly act and at the same time powerless to counter Sayaji (because of his clout), the boy's mother vows that Sayaji will be killed by her son in his next birth after thirty years on a new moon day. The rest of the film deals with the fears and trepidations of Shinde, and how he goes about combating his death threat. Will Shinde be killed as per the curse?

Talking about performances, Sarathkumar as the psychiatrist has allowed the director to completely mould his performance. He looks much younger and has delivered a very cool and nonchalant performance. In fact among his recent releases, this film showcases Sarath in a fresh and revitalized fashion. Meghna Naidu seems to have understood what is expected from her and has followed a liberalization policy with her costumes! Her glamorous looks is one of the selling points of the movie. Manobala and Santhanam provide the comic relief while Sayaji has put in an earnest performance. As the astrologer, veteran Vijaykumar delivers the goods perfectly.

The pre-interval session of the film proceeds linearly on track, but the first twenty minutes post interval is a little grueling for the audience. However, the film picks up momentum soon after. Reincarnation is a widely debated issue, evincing varied opinions. But this aspect has been discussed in the film back and forth and the director's apprehension on which side to fall is clearly evident. A unique feature of the film is that the hero meets the villain only in the climax sequence. The twists and turns of the movie are enjoyable to an extent.

Srikanth Deva's music is ordinary. But what is different about the songs is that there are only two. Both songs feature a very sexy Meghna Naidu. Cinematography and editing are just passable.

Shah Rukh on the other hand is the poster-boy for romance. His love and commitment for Gauri and the kids makes him the clear winner here.

Superstar Rajinikanth starrer bilingual movie which is a remake of Malayalam hit film ‘Kadha Parayumbol’ was lanched in Hyderabad on March 15th evening at Hotel Novotel, Hi-Tech City, Hyderabad.

Mammootty's Katha Parayumpol Malayalam Movie

'Kadha Parayumbhol' is an impressive return to the good old days of Malayalam cinema- a time when great scripts ruled over the techniques of cinema and when directors paid heed to get the best scripts before the actual production of movies. Here, it is the writer and lead actor of the film Sreenivasan, who has emerged the ultimate winner ,as a scriptwriter who reminds us about our good old cinema and as an actor who reminds us about our next door problems and third world snobbery's.

Debutante director M Mohanan pay his respect to his guru and popular director Sathyan Anthikkad by following a narrative line, very similar to the thespian director and by maintaining a tempo and pace that suits today's audiences. The plot of the movie, set in the backdrop of Melukavu, a picturesque, silent village is told as simple and sweet as reading a short story.

The basic premise of the story is all about friendship - that too a rare one, between a village barber and the reigning super star of Malayalam cinema. The film opens with Balan, struggling with his profession due the opening of a new beauty saloon in the junction, is trying for a loan to buy a revolving chair, and to upgrade his equipments. As Balan is a man of ideals with an truculent tongue and is against all kind of bribes, he finds it hard to get a loan through proper ways. He being a father to three school going children, who lives together in a small hut with no facilities, he often is the subject of ridicule to his wealthy neighbors and every one in his village.

Everything in the life of the village barber changes within days of the arrival of a film unit into the village to shoot the film 'Pakshykal parakkatte', which has super star Ashokraaj donning the main role. Every villager's keep away their daily chores and starts revolving around the shooting locations to get a glance of the superstar. From Balan's children, the villagers came to know about the acquaintance that the Superstar had with Balan, twenty five years ago. Within no time he becomes the most noted and talked about man in the village, mostly due to the snobs about this rare friendship. Even the local poet Das Kaatumantha pens a few lines about the friendship between Ashokraaj and Balan.

People began to do every favor including monetary support for him and his family and local financier Eepachan even gifted him with revolving chair and his new equipments. Every one in the village has secret intentions for helping Balan, as most wanted to have a close look of the superstar while some like Das wanted to pen a few lines for any of his upcoming films, making use of this alleged relationship of the film super star and Balan.

But the fact remained that Balan has never disclosed this closeness with the star, to any one in the village. Moreover Balan was reluctant to go ahead and refresh his friendship with Ashok Raj in the fear that the superstar may not identify him from the big group that he is accustomed to meet every day. This creates more problems to him as people gradually start to stamp him as a cheat who is there to make good for him, spreading false stories about his acquaintance. The film goes on to tell how these stories about companionship can turn into a menace for quite living village man.

The film, skillfully repeats the representative characters, from every layer of the rural villages, (reminiscent of Sathyan films) with which the writer makes a lot of careful observations and clarifications about the phenomenon of super stardom and lives of people living in the lower strata of the society. Mostly represented by local professional actors in these roles, the film also gives an authentic feel with all sorts of storyline surprises and political criticisms in spite of its simple exterior. In the scripts, Sreeni seems to repeat some of his earlier sarcastic attributes like dark skin and heightlessness, but more commendable is that he has easily stretched a wafer thin plot to two hours and ten minutes with out much space for idleness.

Once again it is Sreenivasan who gives a life like performance as Balan. He is a towering presence all along as a helpless victim of an idealistic era, who is left to torment between the rich and snobbishness of his surroundings. Mammootty essentially lives as himself in the coat of superstar Ashok Raj, which gives him ample space to echo his ideas about being a celebrity actor. Meena as Balan's wife Sreedevi, also gives the needed ambiance to the character. Innocent as financier Eepachan, Jagadish as Sarasan,the owner of a modern saloon, Mukesh as Venu,the parallel college teacher, and Suraj Venjaramoodu as Papan, a member of the film unit,suveeran as the film director, mamukoya as the teashop owner and a bunch of new artists present themselves in the best of emoting departments.

The film has two songs by Anil Panachooran - M Jayachandran combo, of which “'Vyathyasthanaaya barbar…” is already in the charts due to its different vocals and lyrics. M Jayachandran also has done his best in the rerecording department, which is another highlight of the film.

Kambakth Ishq the first Indian film to be shot within Universal Studios

Mumbai, (IANS) After doing back-to-back comedies last year, it looks like Bollywood’s star Akshay Kumar is hell bent on making 2008 his year of actioners.

In producer Sajid Nadiadwala’s “Kambakth Ishq”, he plays a Hollywood stuntman and it will be shot in Universal Studios.

“This would be the first Indian film to be shot within Universal Studios. We’ve got the permission not only to shoot within the studio but also to use their logo. Akshay plays a stuntman from Universal Studios. We also had amazing superstars from Hollywood. We’re working out the legal aspects,” Nadiadwala told IANS.

Apart from that, Akshay will be seen in Nikhil Advani’s full on action flick “Chandni Chowk to China”.

“Kambakth Ishq” is to be shot in Hollywood, Los Angeles, and the producer has roped in a new director Sabir Khan to helm the film.

“It’ll also star 12-15 leading actors from Hollywood in various parts. It’s a candyfloss, ’safe’ film. We had to bring in an extra gloss in the backdrop. That’s why Hollywood.

“When I produced ‘Mujhse Shaadi Karogi’, it was the first beach film in Bollywood. After that we had dozens of beach films in Hindi. Likewise my ‘Jaan-e-Mann’ was the first romantic comedy with visual effects. While making full-on commercial films we need to change the backdrop.”

Nadiadwala agrees shooting “Kambakth Ishq” in Hollywood won’t be an easy task.

“It will be expensive, yes. We’ll have 40-50 crewmembers flying to LA. We’re thinking of chartering a flight from Mumbai. It’ll be more economical. Or maybe we should just buy a jet,” he joked.

This is Nadiadwala’s most ambitious film to date with a budget of Rs.600 million. Kareena Kapoor plays a brand model.

Why a new director for such a lavish film?

“Sabir Khan has grown up in front of me. He assisted in my production ‘Mujhse Shaadi Karogi’. He is a very hardworking. And if you’re suggesting that I should’ve first let Sabir make a smaller film then let me say I don’t make small films. I’ve dreamt 70mm dreams from before that format was invented.”

Recently, the producer has been signing a lot of new directors.

“After a lot of introspection, my company has decided that we need to continue making commercial films, but with a little deviation. That’s where my three new directors Sabir Khan, Siddharth Anand and Imtiaz Ali come in. They have the discipline of commercial cinema and the ability to take cinema further.

“Siddharth’s film, which will probably star Saif Ali Khan and Ranbir Kapoor, isn’t the routine candyfloss film. We start at the end of 2008. Siddharth wants to do something different. So do I. It’s a film set against Mumbai. It isn’t a dark film. But not frothy either.”

Imtiaz Ali will first direct a film for Saif’s production house.

“After that in March-April 2009 Imtiaz will make a film for me. I think his forte is romance. We’ll go by that. I’d like to take a little risk with the successful directors though.”

Pushing the envelope isn’t seen as a healthy trend in some quarters of Bollywood, if we go by the opposition to Ashutosh Gowariker’s “Jodhaa Akbar”.

“No,” protested Nadiadwala. “I think ‘Jodhaa Akbar’ was commercially viable from the start. Not a single critic questioned Gowariker for making the film. The promos weren’t that good. But in five-six places in the film we stood up and clapped.”

Asked how he picks his directors, Nadiadwala said: “I don’t look at the directors’ success graph. In 2006, I gave a break to Shirish Kunder in ‘Jaan-e-Mann’ when he was a film editor. In 2008, I took on Sajid Khan, who had no background in movies. In fact, he was a stand-up comedian and a critic. To put a commercial Rs.450 million project on his shoulders needed some guts and vision.

“Though ‘Jaan-e-Mann’ didn’t do well, I’m proud of it. My biggest blunder was to release it alongside another big commercial film, ‘Don’. It was one of the biggest blunders of my career. I failed with my release strategy. I take full responsibility.”

He becomes introspective.

“This is my 54th year in the industry. I must’ve inherited the filmy genes from my father. I do feel alone. I wish I had a sibling or a partner. My son is just a child. Yes, I’ve a first-cousin Feroz Nadiadwala who’s also a very successful producer. I did work with him for two years. But we chose to work separately.”

Why not direct a film?

“I do a lot of homework on all the scripts that I produce. But I’m too sensitive and shy to instruct a hundred people on the set. I won’t be able to shoot with an actor I don’t like. I’m an escapist in real life. Maybe I can direct a good escapist entertainer.”

In a sudden turn of events, Sneha has been roped in into Silambarasan’s ‘Silambattam’. Since Kajal Agarwal could not adjust her dates to allocate sufficient dates for ‘Silambaattam’, director Saravanan has approached Sneha to act opposite Simbu.
The smiling beauty, who is very particular about the story of the films she acts, demanded the director to narrate the whole story. The story impressed her and hence she accepted to act in ‘Silambattam’.

It would be a disappointing development for the young and upcoming heroine Kajal, who was on cloud nine after she got the chance to act in ‘Silambattam’. Since there was a possibility of the shooting of her forthcoming Telugu movie getting postponed, the girl thought she could act in this Tamil flick before the Telugu movie goes to the floors.
Unexpectedly, the shooting for the Telugu movie is set to begin as per the original schedule and hence she could not adjust her dates to accommodate ‘Silambattam’.

Shreya Saran has signed her second international project, but this time with noted filmmaker Deepa Metha. The actress, who debuted in Hindi with Mahesh Bhatt's Awarapan is visibly thrilled to have bagged a role in this international production titled as What's Cooking. The film is jointly produced by Deepa Mehta Combine and BR Films.

This is Shreya's second international assignment as she is already doing Ashok Amirtharaj's Other End of the Life with Jesse Metcalfe, directed by Jimmy Dodson. In Deepa Metha's What's Cooking, Shreya is going to play an important role. Seema Biswas and Lisa Ray are also in the cast. According to the director, the movie is at present being shot on locations in New Delhi.

Shreya said, "I couldn't believe when Deepa Mehta called me to offer a role in her movie. I am really happy with this offer and I hope it is a chance to know the other sides of good film making. It will be a new experience for me."

Currently, Shreya is working in Sangeeth Sivan's Ek, which also has Bobby Deol and Nana Patekar in the cast and Apoorva Lakhia's Mission Istanbul, also starring Abhishek Bachchan, Sunil Shetty, Vivek Oberoi and Zayed Khan. In Tamil, she is the lead lady in Vikram starrer Kandasamy and yet to be titled Dhanush film.

Black and White is a suicide bomber at the Box Office

Last week Friday release Black and White gives us info about quite a few bombs, - how to tame a suicide bomber and how to sit through a movie, which will eventually bomb at the box office. Its time to relieve Subhash Ghai of the “Showman” tag and award him with a ” No Show ” tag. And its high time for him to step down from the director’s seat, after giving a hat trick of bombs- Yaadein, Kisna and now Black & White (which can instill suicidal tendencies amongst audiences for sitting through them) and just stick to being a producer.

There is nothing white about this movie as everything is black except for the performances by Anil Kapoor, Anurag Sinha and Shefali Shah. Couple of years back we saw Amir Khan-the terrorist disguised as a flirty guide, but being a perfectionist he made it look real. Now come back to B & W guys, we have our Anurag Sinha as Numair Qazi- Fidayeen from an Afghan terror camp, a hardcore terrorist with a heart of stone, comes to Delhi on a mission. A mission to blow up the Red Fort on August 15- Hah! As if it was possible for this guy to do it single handedly, and I guess there is something called security too, Mr. Ghai thinks we are dumb enough to take it??

But then our quiet and grim terrorist must have seen the famous movie Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Ghum, because he heads straight to Chandni Chowk, saare Delhi mein Chowk hi mila tha?? Our stone cold terrorist is given aasra by a wise poet (Habib Tanvir) in Chandni Chowk, our Afghani hunk does his homework well and passes himself as a victim of Gujarat riots justifying his hatred towards disbelievers. Neighbors to our poet are Rajan Mathur ( Anil Kapoor ), an Urdu professor at Delhi university and his red-hot-chili-pepper social activist wife ( Shefali Shah-she is superb). Now our Professor Rajan is a believer of secularism, and makes no stone unturned to bring peace amongst Hindus and Muslims of Chandni Chowk, so he is a part time peacemaker.

The story moves forward, as our suicide bomber bumps into our peacemaker couple, who welcome him into their own family, loving, caring and giving happiness to him (which he never got back home), as they would have given to their own son. Now this results in conflicts in Numair’s mind, and we are left to wonder which part of the mind he will eventually listen to. Great and sensitive story we can say, but it fails miserably to keep the audience gripped to their seats- Chalo yaar jaldi suicide bombing kario, I cant sit through this crap, is what the audience starts to think.

Naah! Numair is not the real suicide bomber of the movie it’s the screenplay. Mr Ghai ruins the climax of the movie, making it unreal and unconvincing, even a child with a lollipop in his mouth will laugh at it. The only way to understand the ending is to rip off the main plug of your brain or you can become Paris Hilton, only if you really want to.

Anurag Sinha, does a good job as a debutant, with few dialogues to mouth, he manages to express through his eyes and body. Anil Kapoor acts convincing and composed. Shefali Shah is as usual great. Aditi Sharma-huh does she deserve a mention, I wonder how did she won that superstar reality show. Habib Tanvir has a great screen presence. The background score of the movie is good,and the songs are bad. Surely Mr Ghai deserves a pat on his back, for venturing into this dangerous territory, the thought and possibility that terrorists can be reformed makes the viewer bound to think about it.

But the whole package is a real disappointment, with nothing exciting and gripping. The bad movie at the end of the day overshadows the brilliant performances by the cast. We can say Black and White is a suicide bomber at the Box Office.

Vikram's dream has come true

Vikram has told several times that it is one of his dreams to act in ace director Mani Rathnam’s film. Now the dream has come true. It is learnt from reliable sources that Madras Talkies has roped in the talented actor for a film.

Mani Ratnam is considering Cheeyan for an important role in his next Hindi film which will have the Guru team of Aishwarya Rai and Abishek Bachchan once again. Talks are said to be on between Mani Ratnam and Vikram. If this offer comes through, fans of Cheeyan and Mani Ratnam are sure to be delighted as the talented couple has never been teamed up earlier.

The exciting combination of Mani - Vikram, however, will not take place in the near future. We have to wait for at least one and half years to see them coming together.
Mani Rathnam is now busy shaping up the script of his Hindi movie featuring Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai in the lead while Vikram is busy with ‘Kanthaswamy’.

He will have to finish two projects with K.S. Ravikumar and Ameer before coming to the movie made by Mani Rathnam.

Simran is going to be Pasupathi’s pair in Kuselan

The days after the official announcement on Kuselan have been busy for director P Vasu with him zeroing on the other crew of the movie. It was already announced that Pasupathi would play the important role of Superstar’s friend in the movie. Simran is going to be Pasupathi’s pair in Kuselan, remake of Sreenivasan’s Malayalam superhit Katha Parayumbol.

The beautiful actress, who had been the top heroine for many years, is struggling to make a come back after her marriage and child birth. Now she has got a golden opportunity to prove her worth by acting in ‘Kuselan’, opposite Pasupathy. This will indeed be a very good re-entry for Simran as she was not getting right opportunities in Tamil after she decided to came a comeback post marriage and baby. It is worth recalling that Simran, with amazing dancing skills, was the first choice for Chandramukhi, which revolved around a dancer. Since she was on the family way, she could not take up the offer and the chance went to Jyothika, who came out with a top notch performance.

The buzz is that there will be one more heroine (not there in the Malayalam original), for the superstar. It is unlikely to be Nayanthara, as she has already done a full length heroine role in Chandramukhi and a special song sequence in Sivaji. Vasu wants a glamorous girl who is acceptable both in Tamil and Telugu, since it is being made as a bilingual, which clearly means a Bollywood actress is in the running.

Vasu said, “We have closed in on Simran, who missed the role in Chandramukhi. There will be another heroine in the film and I will come with the entire cast and crew list within a day or two. We will start shooting the film in February and release it in June, 2008.”

Simran is quite disturbed over the news on her role in Gautham Menon’s ‘Varanam Aayiram’. Recent reports in the media suggested that she had been booked to act
